James Huctwith
<<ARTIST PAGE
James Huctwith was born in 1967 and raised in Southern Ontario. After high school he spent three years studying in the Bachelor of Fine Art program at the University of Guelph. He received his degree and cites professors Margaret Priest, Walter Bachinski and Suzy Lake as significant influences, as well as visiting international painter Tony Scherman.
Following university, Huctwith resided in Vancouver where he first began to work professionally as a painter and to exhibit. Upon returning to Ontario in 1995, he set up his studio in Toronto where he began producing and exhibiting figurative paintings.
In the spring of 2005 he began producing consistently
non-figurative work exploring architectural subjects, in contrast to the physically and emotionally explicit figurative work shown in Toronto.
Throughout the evolution of Huctwith's work, an ongoing love of architecture has played a major part in the shaping of all of his work.
